Job Assignment for Health Professionals Engaged in Occupational Group Health Services of Korea

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to suggest the direction of the job description for the health professionals involved in the Group Health Service (GHS). To achieve this purpose the study was designed to compare frequencies by type of services in total responses and to compare services expected and provided by type of health professional qualifications in each job. Data were collected from 17 physicians, 46 nurses , 31 hygienists and 8 administrators taking position of management part in the 33 GHS agencies.
The guidelines of the job description were based on the data results of what services were expected in the GHS according to the job of the health professionals and what services were provided by health professionals. The survey was carried out by questionnaires which were developed by literature review and consultations from the occupational health experts in each area: physician, nurse, hygienist and administrator. After pretest, the content was modified and was used as a tool for this study. Data were analysed by SAS programme in the service area and in the qualification of job performance. Descriptive statistics was used.
The results showed high expectation and high performance in the categories of administrative services, services provided to employees, and expanded services in order. There was no similarity between expected services and provided services in doctors´ responses.
However, the responses from the nurses and hygiensts showed similarities between expected and provided services such as health management area in nurses, and working environment management in hygiene part. Data interpretation suggested the importance of new job description of 4 different occupational health professionals accorditig to their qualifications.
